Lotus Village
How to find, to organize, and to establish the city's own character (genius loci) from the bottom up?
Sanjia Village is a small rural village in the southeast of Shengang District, located in the cracks between the expansion of two old Taichung cities. Urban development brought factories and the outflow of middle-aged people, forming a common Taiwanese rural landscape where "fields" and "factories" co-exist. Also, because they were forgotten outside of urban development, "Xiaoyun Villa" has been well preserved,and has been designated as a municipal historic site in Taichung.
Nowadays, there are no schools, hospitals, and other public institutions in the area,and the only temple is not enough to provide for residents' needs. Although there are fig farms and TanYaShen Bike trails in the outer ring, there is no space for elders, children, or even tourists. I want to take "river" as the principle of design, from the sluice of Xiaoyun Villa, to the farmland and farms of every household, to complement the care functions, and finally to lead to the TanYaShen Bike trail. Now, the forgotten “Lotus Village” which belongs to Sanjia Village has been reinvented.
