Rediscovery of the Abandoned Theater

Through the research of the process of making clothing, new ways of spatial design can becreated.Depending on how the sewing patterns are changed differently from the actual surface shapesof the body, the final clothing product changes the perception of the body that wears it.Applying this concept back into architecture, what type of change should this ‘clothing’ createwhen it is ‘worn’ by a building?

‘Beyong the Sky’ Theater (as of 2020) is an abandoned building in the central district rightbehind Taichung's train station. It has suffered damages and changes through its changes of ownerships. This project wishes toattract visitors to re-experience the space by restoring the space while honoring the changes ithas gone through.

To create a new visual and circulatory experience, this project adds a new layer of ‘clothes’ forthe building to replace the missing parts, making the whole building itself an artwork. It can beobserved as a whole (seen from the outside), explored (entering into and moving within thebuilding), and observed closely in detail (see how the new addition interacts with different typesand extents of damages).
