Heaven in a Park
Taichung Municipal Funeral Home was established in 1969, located in the suburb of Taichung at that time. With the rapid development and expansion of Taichung, it has gradually become a part of city. Because "death" is a taboo in Taiwanese culture, funeral homes are in urban public spaces. Or the surrounding residents' daily life space produces a certain rupture and depression atmosphere.
This design takes undergroundization as the main spatial strategy, and divides the park from the ground into three levels: park, burial area, and funeral area, so that the urban public space on the ground can be circulated, and at the same time, it is transformed from bottom to top. Transform the grief of death into the comfort of life, and re-dialect the possibility of life and death in urban space.
