The site of my project is located in the Jiali District of Tainan City, which is known as Jiali Town. Jiali Town is a town with fifty thousand people and most of them are elderly. The aging index of Jiali Town reached 148% in the year 2020, while the average number of the aging index of Taiwan is 118%. This number accurately shows that Jiali Town is a place with a large number of aged residences. Accordingly, constructing a humanized caring system for these aged residences is undoubtedly the town’s highest priority. With the slow pace of its urban development, Jiali Town has turned into a town with the phenomenon of counter-urbanization. While more and more retired people move into Jiali Town, the issues of taking care of the dementia elderlies become one of the most worth mentioning tasks in Jilai town. Therefore, I intended to focus on the task of designing a social caring system for the dementia elderlies and the aged residents in Jiali town in my thesis project. I attempted to create a soft boundary to provide a community network in the social caring system for the dementia elderlies. With the existing urban texture in Jiali town, I intended to design a dementia village which is informal and non-institutional. The designed village is an environment full of flexibility and identifiable boundaries for the elderlies in Jiali town.
