救援及抵抗性仿生设计: 面对捷运站里的生化攻击 A Biomimicry Design For Rescue and Resistance Against Bio-chemical Attack in Underground Met

With the advance in science and technology, the rapid development in weapons of mass destruction (WMD) becomes a rising danger to the globe. WMD includes nuclear, radiological, chemical, biological weapons. Since it is easy to produce and highly catastrophic to humans and animals, it becomes a common weapon for terrorist attacks in high-traffic areas, for instance, train and metro stations. The Sarin gas attack in Tokyo Metro Station (1995) is one of the astonishing terrorist attacks in history, and the Taipei Main Station has complicated space and circulation planning as well, in which people feels frustrated to in terms of its way-finding and not user firendly to pregant women, disabled, and elderly. Problemetic wayfinding is a serious issue for people to escape during emergency. A Biomimicry Design For Rescue and Resistance Against Bio-chemical Attack in Underground Metro Station will introduce 8 strategies inspired by more than 10 species, on how biomimicry design can be applied to the Taipei Main Station, in order to save lives from terrorist attacks in traffic hubs. For instances, the creation of sliding escape system is inspired by the movement of snake, the idea of the temporary safety air bag is mimicking the shell of snail to provide a temporary shelter to people who are unable to escape, and the concept of having flexible walls next to the exit is inspired by peacock on how and why they spread their feather etc. Animal’s structures and behaviours have suggested various methods to cope with emergency, especially how they avoid predators to save their lives. Animals used their innate skills to live longer than humans on earth, thus, the contingency system developed from nature is our role model to learn from.
